Butterbee Scraps Recycled Paintbrush Project

Good Morning Creatives!

Today I am sharing with you a fun project I recently made for Butterbee Scraps.

I’ve always loved the idea of recycling a used paintbrush. It’s the perfect use for those paint brushes that you accidentally let dry and can’t revive.

Here’s what I came up with:

Butterbee Scraps Supplies Used:

Large Metal Gear

Gold Filigree Wings

Large Bronze Cameo Frame

Large Glass Cabochons

Silver Filigree Flowers

Aquamarine Flat Back Rhinestones

Bronze Cable Chain

Other Materials:

DecoArt Acrylic Paint

ILoveToCreate T-shirt Glitter

Old Paintbrush (or brushes)

Hot Glue Gun

Stickers (A Splash of Color)

Putting it all Together

This project was a lot of fun to make because I sat down without really  having plan. I just sat down to create.

I was digging through my Butterbee Scraps embellishments and came across her new Gold Filigree wings and thought “OK…I haven’t used these yet…what can I make.”

Then my stream of consciousness thought angel..then what can I make an angel out of…I have a paintbrush…let’s run with that!

I painted and glittered my large paintbrush to start and then realized it needed a little more oomph, so I added the extra brushes. I painted them all so that they would look like they had been well loved and used. (thinking back…I wish I would have added some gloss medium to the brush bristles to make it look like the paint was still wet!)

I then hot glued my wings to the top to act as the base for my centerpiece.

I added the gear because…what’s an angel without a halo!?

To make my Aquamarine Flatback Rhinestones POP against my red background, I surrounded them in a lime green acrylic paint. I wasn’t going for perfect little circles. I thought messy circles when much better with the spirit of the project.

The centerpiece was unexpected. Since I didn’t have a plan when I sat down, I just took out a couple sheets of word stickers and stared at them for a few minutes. It was kind of like on of those crossword puzzles you see on Facebook “The first 3 words you see will predict how your 2017 will be” {or something like that!} The word “amaze” jumped out at me and I instantly knew I wanted to make that the focal point.

Closing Thoughts

As this is my first post of 2017, I would be remise if I didn’t wish you all an AMAZING new year.

2017 has the potential to be the best year of your life, so this project is for you…. every day…YOU AMAZE ME. With your love and support and all you do to fill my dream tank as I pursue this crazy career of artist.

Thank you for 2016 and here’s to 2017 {clink champagne glasses!}

Until Next time,

XOXO,

KERI
