Prima Marketing Design Team Call

Good Morning Creatives!

Today I am super excited to share with you three projects that I recently made for a design team call.

Why Prima?

If you’ve been following me here or on social media, you probably know that my style can be a little all over the place. I just can’t help it! I feel like what I make depends on my mood. There are times I want to make a long 5 hour project with lots of paints and textures and layers. And there are other times I want to paint a pretty face and use bright and funky colors. Other times…who knows what’s going to come out! LOL.

That’s why I thought it would be so much fun to work with Prima Marketing, Inc. They have such a wide variety of products and styles that I think it would be a great time of challenging myself as an artist and producing new and exciting works of art.

So….here’s what I came up with for my audition. I hope you enjoy it. Leave me a comment and let me know which is your favorite!

“This Shall Work Out in Time” Mixed Media Plaque

My first project is a mixed media plaque.

I started with a wooden plaque and a great stencil from Prima by Finnabar. I added some The Crafter’s Workshop Gold Gesso and then layered on some DecoArt Media Black Antiquing Cream.

I LOVE the aging that the Antiquing Cream gives any piece!

Mini Album from a 6×6 Paper Pad

A few years ago, I designed a tutorial where I showed how to make an entire mini album from a single 6×6 paper pad. (You Can find the tutorial here!)

It had been a long time since I had made this style album, so I thought it would be fun to try it again! I had the “Epiphany” collection from Prima Marketing, Inc. that I could play with.

This album is pretty sneaking…it looks innocent until you open it up…

Open like a book and reveal the smaller mini-album in the middle.

Open each side again and you get a large 4 space album.

BUT WAIT….THERE’S MORE!!

If you look at my album from the side, you can see just how many flaps/pages this album has.

As you can see, there are extra flaps on both sides as well as 6 pages in the middle album

For the cover, I just had fun layering Prima Marketing Flowers and some various metals, layered over a this cool self-adhesive clock face I found.

I edged my flowers with gold paint to distress them a bit and tone down the colors.

To finish it up, I added some fun details to the spine.

Mixed Media Face

For my last project, I wanted to do something completely different from my other projects.

As you can see, this portrait is different from all of my other ones, for a couple reason.

When I said down to draw it, I tried my usual design and it just wasn’t coming out naturally. I decided instead to try a new style.

I was loving the wide set eyes and more round face shape.

After I added my white gesso and my watercolors, I took this picture… liking where I was going. The more I looked at it, the more I thought “Hey…I don’t see this kind of portrait…like EVER.” Most have these beautiful, flowing manes of hair, but no one paints bald women. And I wondered… what do women who deal with hair lose think of this? Does it make them sad not to see themselves represented? Do those women who have lost their hair because of chemo feel less beautiful because no one DRAWS them as beautiful women?

So I made the risky decision to no draw her hair. I know for the purpose of this Design Team call, it would have been better to paint this beautiful hair and show my talent, but I couldn’t. I wanted to show a beautiful, bald woman in honor of all those women who might feel less beautiful because of the lack of hair.

The quote beside her is actually from a song they sing in the Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews movie “The Princess Diaries.”

It says:

Dear Girl,

You are terribly blessed. It’s your heart of Gold I love the best. It will be your crowning glory your whole life long.

To finish her off, I made her a crown. What princess doesn’t have a crown? I used some small Prima Flowers, but used my watercolors to give them a funky, watercolor feel to match my background.

What does all this mean?

I hope you enjoyed today’s projects and it inspires you to take a leap of faith towards your dreams.

Whether it’s to join a design team, find a new job, renew a relationship…whatever it is! Take a small step today to reach.

Until Next time,

XOXO,

Keri
