My Zentangle Inspiration
Ingredients
For this project, you will need:
White Card Stock
Deco Art Acrylic Paint
Deco Art Media Fluid Acrylics
Stencils
Misc Object for impressions
Black Pens
Dewert Inktense Blocks or watercolors
How to make make your background
- I started with this ghost print that I had leftover from another project. It was made using yellow paint on my 8×10 Gel Press Plate and covering it with a stencil. I removed some of the paint through the stencil and then lifted my image with the stencil in place. Once I removed my stencil, I was able to lift this ghost image.
2. Next I added light blue and red to my Gel Press plate and used my Faber-Castell texture plates to add texture lines. I added this layer on top of my first layer.
3. For my last layer, I added solid aqua on top of my plate, layered on a stencil and then layered my paper to capture the image.
4. This is the finished background.
Adding my Zentangles
I have this apron that my sister-in-law bought me as a house warming present 5 years ago that I have always loved the doodle-style flowers on. {as you can see…it’s well loved!}
I decided to use my flowers as inspiration.
- I started by drawing my flowers with pencil first
- Next, I added a layer of gesso to my drawing.
- Using various black pens, I added my Zentangles designs to my flowers and leaves, using my apron as inspiration.
- To add some color, I used my Dewert Inktense Blocks. You could also use watercolors.
- I finished my Zentangle Flowers with a quote from Alice in Wonderland: Imagination is the only weapon in the war against reality.
- Here is my finished project again!
Closing Thoughts
I hope you enjoyed today’s project.
I have to admit, Zentangles in not usually in my creative wheelhouse, but I had a lot of fun taking the flowers off my apron and interpreting them onto paper.
